Abstract

Globally, pediatric and adolescent age-groups are affected by headaches and migraine with a prevalence rate of about 54.4%–58.4% and 7.7%–9.1%, respectively. Although medications have been well studied in the prophylaxis of migraine, there is a lack of conclusive studies on the effect of nutrition on migraine headache and its characteristics (Yamanaka et al., 2020). A diet rich in fiber can modify the production of inflammatory cytokines, namely TNF-α and IL-6, by changing the gut microflora. The existing active segments found in fruits and vegetables have a positive impact on neurogenic inflammation via interactions with the neuropeptide receptors. This inflammatory mediator has been alleged to have a focal role in migraine pathophysiology (Ariyanfar et al., 2019). This chapter aims to discuss research that addresses the causal relationship between fruit and vegetable intake and pediatric migraine prophylaxis. © 2023 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
