Abstract

Increasing pressure to develop green and eco-friendly methods for synthesizing nanoparticles has provoked researchers to shift to microorganisms and biological systems. Plants can be used in large-scale production of nanoparticles, and in order to improve their potential in nanoparticle synthesis, it is necessary to investigate the biochemical and molecular mechanisms of nanoparticle formation. This chapter reviews phytosynthesis of nanoparticles, the influences of reaction conditions, and mechanistic aspects. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2015.
