Abstract

Life expectancy for men and women has increased over the past century, and it is estimated that the US population over the age of 65 rose to ~120% between 2010 and 2050 [1]. As the population ages, age-related health complications and the need for effective prevention and treatment strategies will increase. Although cardiovascular diseases are still the leading cause of death in the elderly [2], age-related neurodegenerative disorders are among the top causes of death, with no definitive treatment [3]. © 2022 selection and editorial matter, Jayant Nemchand Lokhande, Yashwant Vishnupant Pathak; individual chapters, the contributors CRC Press is an imprint of Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
