Abstract

Telomere has a complex and specific structure which is essential for maintaining stability and integrity of chromosome. In addition, there is an interaction between telomere and DNA damage response. Structure and modifications of telomere affect expression of some nearby genes. Defects in telomere configuration or telomere binding proteins have an important role in many diseases and cancers. One of the most important aspects is the role of telomere in tumorigenesis. Telomere length and function have major implications in the diagnosis of cancer. © 2013 Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht.
