Abstract

Background: The effect of ionizing radiaton of 8-HYDROXY-2'-DEOXYGUANOSINE (8-OHdG) level in radiographers' urine as the oxidatve damage biomarker was investgated in this study and this biomarker was compared with the collectve effectve doses. Materials and Methods: The samples were selected into two categories in this cross-sectonal study, 35 of whom were from different radiography groups (including nuclear medicine, radiology, radiotherapy, CT scan), and 35 subjects were from the staf who had no exposure to radiaton. The results of the film badge were gathered from the hospitals, and the collectve effectve dose was obtained according to the respectve formula. Then, at the end of the work shift, the urine samples were taken to determine the 8-OHdG concentraton. The samples were obtained via the SPE (solid-phase extracton) method. After that, the 8-OHdG concentraton was read by the GC/MS analyzer. Finally, the data resulted from the 8-OHdG concentraton and the collectve effectve dose of the radiaton were analyzed by the SPSS software. Result: The results showed that the 8-hydroxy-2-deoxy-guanosine concentraton in the urine of the radiaton workers had significant correlaton with the collectve effectve dose of the radiaton the past 6 periods (P=0.009) and also with the collectve effectve dose of the radiaton of the 30 last periods (P=0.009). Conclusion: Observing the radiaton protecton principles by radiaton workers results in decreased radiaton and, in turn, reduces the level of oxidatve stress, thus, reducing the potental effects of radiaton. © 2020 Novin Medical Radiation Institute.
