Abstract

To increase the efficacy of cancer treatment, early detection is essential. It allows for timely intervention, preventing the disease from progressing to advanced stages, where treatment options may be limited and less effective. Electrochemical aptasensors have emerged as promising tools in cancer diagnosis. They combine the high specificity and sensitivity of aptamers with the rapid and accurate detection capabilities of electrochemical techniques. Also, using nanoparticles in electrochemical aptasensors facilitates the detection of cancer biomarkers with enhanced precision and sensitivity, leading to improved accuracy in diagnoses. The integration of nanoparticles enhances the signal amplification and target recognition capabilities of aptasensors, making them a promising tool for reliable early-stage cancer detection and personalized medicine. This book chapter provides a comprehensive review of the most common cancer biomarkers, biorecognition elements in biosensors, transducer elements, aptamer-Based biosensors, and a combination of nanotechnology with aptasensors in cancer diagnosis. The utilization of electrochemical aptasensors, especially when combined with nanoparticles, shows great potential in enabling the detection of cancer biomarkers, leading to more accurate diagnosis and personalized medicine. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
