The Use of Complementary Medicine in Pregnancy Nausea

Abstract

Background: Nausea and vomiting are the most common complaints during pregnancy. Due to the limited effect and dangerous side effects of taking antiemetic drugs, complementary medicine in this field has been welcomed by pregnant women. The existence of contradictory results in this area led the researcher to conduct a systematic review of the effects of complementary medicine on nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. Methods: Searching for data was performed using the keywords of keywords nausea, vomiting, pregnancy, pregnancy nausea, pregnancy vomiting, pregnancy complementary, complementary nausea. The databases were Iranian Medical Science Database (Iran Medex), Pub Med, Mag Iran Scientific Database (SID), Scopus. The search of the above-mentioned database was carried out from July to September 2019. Results After searching the databases and extracting a large number of articles by title and abstract, 360 articles were reviewed and finally 15 articles were reviewed. The types of strategies used to prevent and treat pregnancy-related nausea were herbal medicine, psychological interventions, acupressure and reflexology, respectively. Conclusions: These interventions have been studied in a wide range of pregnant women, while maternal age, multiparous age, gestational age, and time to onset of nausea have a significant impact on response to treatment and severity of nausea, also with regard to Getting the results of these studies is not easy to judge the efficacy of a variety of strategies for nausea due to pregnancy and to generalize the results easily; Abnormalities and side effects on the fetus. © 2019, Advanced Scientific Research.
