Abstract

The chemical composition of the volatile oil from aerial parts of Teucrium chamaedrys subsp. syspirense (C. Koch) Rech. fil. has been studied by GC-MS. Sixty-two components (98.8 % of the total composition) were identified. E-Caryophyllene (18.2 %), germacrene D (10.8 %), carvacrol (9.5 %), α-humulene (6.4 %), caryophyllene oxide (4.8 %) and linalool (3.7 %) were found to be the major constituents of the oil. The oil of T. chamaedrys subsp. syspirense was characterized by a high content of sesquiterpenes (77.3 %), whereas monoterpenes contained only 18.2 % of the essential oil. © 2010 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
