Abstract

The authors wish to clarify an error identified in Figure 1 of the published article. The SEM image representing group B was mistakenly duplicated from group C. This duplication was an unintentional error that occurred while addressing a reviewer's comment requesting a higher magnification SEM image with the arrows to indicate bacterial presence. The mistake likely happened during the replacement of a higher magnification SEM image, as the images of groups B and C were located adjacent to each other in the figure layout, increasing the likelihood of an accidental mix-up. Unfortunately, due to the passage of time and the loss of original source files, we are unable to retrieve the original SEM image for group B. We acknowledge this oversight and sincerely apologize for any confusion it may have caused. It is important to emphasize that the SEM images were intended solely as supplementary illustrations of E. faecalis presence and were not used for quantitative analysis. Our results and conclusions were based entirely on colony count data from agar plates, which remain accurate and unaffected by this error. Many similar studies, including those cited in our article, report findings based solely on colony counts without including SEM images. This correction does not affect the scientific conclusions of the study in any way. The authors would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
