Abstract

In the realm of systematic reviews and meta-analyses, the quality assessment of included studies serves as a pivotal foundation that governs the validity and reliability of the overarching conclusions. Our chapter delves into the various tools and questionnaires tailored for diverse study designs, illuminating the essential role these instruments play in evaluating the methodological rigor and reporting quality of primary research. By systematically assessing the biases and strengths inherent in the studies, we gain critical insights into the sources of heterogeneity, which can significantly influence the interpretation of statistical outcomes. Furthermore, this quality evaluation not only enhances our understanding of the robustness of the evidence but also aids in the identification of areas requiring further scrutiny. Ultimately, this chapter underscores the importance of rigorous quality assessment in systematic review processes, facilitating a more nuanced and credible synthesis of research findings. Through a comprehensive exploration of quality assessment methodologies, we aim to equip researchers with the necessary frameworks to enhance the integrity and transparency of their reviews, promoting more informed decision-making in clinical and policy contexts. © 2025 Elsevier Inc.
