Abstract

Mechano-electrospinning (MES) is a more advanced iteration of nearfield electrospinning (NFES) technology which can be used to deposit nano- or micro-scale fibers more precisely relative to conventional electrospinning method (CES) and in this regards it is known as an advanced version of CES, however, in terms of operational parameters, NFES has a much narrower operational envelope and considerably more prone to being over-sensitive to functional settings relative to its CES counterpart. One of operational parameters which can significantly alter the quality of the produced samples, is inclusion of secondary phases within the primary ingredients of spun fibers. In this study, the operational parameters for producing polycaprolactone microfibers were obtained first and then the impact of inclusion of a secondary phase in the forms of nanoparticles on the quality of deposited fibers using NFES is investigated. Eventually, the optimized MES-produced samples were for the first time used in conjunction with a CES membrane as a support layer. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
