Abstract

The detailed composition of distilled bud- and flower-bearing tops of Zataria multiflora was investigated by several analytical techniques (GC, GC-MS, FT-IR, 1H- and 13C-NMR). The volatile oil of the former consisted mainly of oxygen-containing monoterpenes (84.81%) and sesquiterpene hyrocarbons (11.88%), whilst the volatile oil of the latter consisted mainly of oxygen-containing monoterpenes (81.78%), monoterpene hydrocarbons (7.33%) and sesquiterpene hydrocarbons (6.96%). The major components for the two volatile oils were linalol (62.22% and 60.39%), linalyl acetate (11.52% and 8.55%), β-caryophyllene (7.34% and 4.53%). Copyright (C) 2000 John Wiley and Sons, Ltd.
