Abstract

Globally, cancer is a disease that seriously impacts the population. Successful treatment and prevention of this life-threatening disease require new treatment methods. Recently, research has focused on natural compounds and development of more efficient drug delivery systems. Curcumin is a natural compound with antitumor, antioxidant, and antiinflammatory properties. However, it has low bioavailability in aquatic environments. To improve the bioavailability of curcumin and its anticancer properties, researchers have used nanocurcumin. There are dietary supplements, herbal medicines, and food additives containing nanocurcumin available worldwide. A good safety profile has been reported for these products. A summary of recent human clinical trials that have evaluated nanocurcumin's anticancer activity is presented in this chapter, as well as a review of patents, marketed nanocurcumin products, and various nanocurcumin delivery systems. © 2024 Elsevier Inc.
