Abstract

The Pentacam (Oculus, Wetzlar, Germany) is one of the most commonly used tomographic devices that evaluates the entire cornea by a single rotating Scheimpflug camera without Placido cone. It supplies the investigators with different topographic and tomographic indices including anterior Anterior chamber angle sagital and tangential corneal curvatures, different thickness maps, elevation maps based on different reference shapes, corneal power map, true corneal net power map, equivalent keratometric reading map and several other modalities. New keratoconus screening indices such as D index, ARTmax, and PPI in Belin/Ambrosio Enhanced Ectasia Display and Belin ABCD progression program for early keratoconus detection and its progression status are promising tools for screening before refractive surgery and judicious follow up of keratoconic eyes. Optical Densitometry display, corneal rings guide, Holladay Report, True Net power map, phakic IOL simulation are important displays for preoperative planning by anterior segment surgeons. Analysis of wavefront aberration based on ray-tracing suitable for pre or post-refractive surgery screening. It can also be joint with Corvis for the combined topographic-biomechanic index as a more sensitive tool to detect early ectatic conditions. Glaucoma screening and contact lens fitting reports are other programs that provided more important information of the anterior chamber and ocular angles and corrected IOP suggestion and guide for the optimal fitting of contact lenses, respectively. The main purpose of this chapter is to introduce the diagnostic indices of Pentacam and identify the interesting and practical cases and compare their diagnostic abilities with other common imaging devices. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2021.
