Abstract

This article has been retracted: please see Elsevier policy on Article Correction, Retraction and Removal (https://www.elsevier.com/about /policies-and-standards/article-withdrawal). This article has been retracted at the request of the Editor-in-Chief. The corresponding author of the review article was contacted to address concerns raised on PubPeer regarding the significant number of retracted references cited. The author clarified that, at the time of publication, these references were valid and had not been retracted. However, as the number of retractions increased substantially during this correspondence, the Editor-in-Chief concluded that this growing body of retracted literature undermines the foundational evidence supporting the review. Both the Editor and the Journal recognise that the inclusion of references retracted after publication is beyond the authors’ control and that they bear no responsibility for the reasons behind those retractions. Nevertheless, in order to uphold the integrity of the scientific record, the Editor-in-Chief has decided to retract the article.
