Abstract

The body's defense against potential dangers and re-establish homeostasis rely on “immune system” which consists of the components responsible for protecting the host body from harmful agents. To provoke an efficient response, the immune system must recognize a wide range of pathogens and discriminate them from the host's own tissues. Two types of immunity include “innate” and “adaptive” immune responses along with each other are skilled to defense against pathogens and maintaining body's homeostasis. In this article, we described the basic concepts of immunity including the important components of immune system and also the basic effector mechanisms for pathogen elimination. © 2022 Elsevier Inc.
