Abstract

Flavonoids have multiple neuroprotective functions inside the brain. They are including potential neuroprotection against neurotoxins-induced damages, neuroinflammation supersession, and the potential to improve learning, cognitive functions, and memory. These functions seem to be due to two underlying processes. First, interacting lipid kinase signaling pathway with critical protein within the brain. These interactions resulted in apoptosis inhibition initiated by neurotoxin species. They promote synaptic plasticity as well as neuronal survival. Second, they mediated favorable impacts on the vasculature system that alters cerebrovascular blood flow—these changes lead to neurogenesis, neuronal morphology changes, and angiogenesis. Thus, flavonoid-rich foods consumption in life span potentially restricted neurodegeneration and reverse or prevent senescent changes in cognitive function. Great enthusiasm for drug development to enhance brain activity revealed that flavonoids might provide an essential precursor in brain injury medications. © 2023 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
