Abstract

The synthesis of natural products as a part of synthetic organic chemistry has remained largely unchanged over time and requires further development of more efficient methods [1, 2]. In the past few years, radical substitution reactions have engrossed special attention in the guise of suggesting the replacement of retrosynthetic disconnections of target compounds via one-electron, open-shell synthons in comparison with classical intermediates with two-electron closed shell [1, 3]. Open-shell intermediates can be produced by redox-active reagents, either in their reduced or oxidized states, and as well as by applying electrochemical or photochemical methods [4, 5]. Further, with the application of more sustainable processes and approaches, and with an improved atom economy, the assembly of intricate scaffolds can be realized [1, 6]. © 2026 Maryam Khayatkashani, Seyed Mohammad Nabavi, Seyed Fazel Nabavi, Ana Sanches Silva, and Farheen Badrealam Khan.
